George Halitzka, Artistic Director

George HalitzkaGeorge Halitzka is the creative force behind Drama by George. You can call him a theatre artist, writer, or educator–but first and foremost, he’s a storyteller.

George believes wholeheartedly in the power of a well-told story to delight, engage, and transform. He’s brought his high-energy performances to over 80,000 children and teens as an actor and storyteller. He’s performed throughout the Louisville area and beyond at schools, community centers, camps, churches, libraries, and just about every place that youth gather.

George has taught drama workshops to thousands of people, from kids who have never been onstage before to seasoned adult actors. George is also an experienced theatrical director. Favorite projects include The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon (Bellarmine University, Louisville), Christmas Presence (Drama by George, Louisville), The Ranger Ned Story (Pacific Theatre, Vancouver, BC), Juvie (Palace Youth Theatre, Cleveland), Crucifix (Drama Inc., Chicago), and The Father’s Gift (Parkview Church, Iowa City, IA).

One-act plays written by George are available from Playscripts, Inc. and Christian Publishers; his shorter works have been published by Foundry Publishing and Drama Ministry. George’s scripts have also been honored multiple times in the CITA National Playwriting Contest. His writings about theatre have appeared in publications including Christianity and Theatre,,, and Ministry Today.

Kentucky Arts Council
In recognition of artistic excellence and the ability to conduct residencies in an educational setting, George Halitzka has been selected to participate in the Teaching Artists Directory, a program of the Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, which is supported by state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
