Drama in the Classroom
Recommended for elementary school teachers • 1-4 hours
You know your students are creative—but how do you coax it out of them onstage? Choose any or all of these one-hour sessions to prepare for coaching young actors! "Drama in the Classroom " is perfect for K-6 classroom teachers, as well as art and music specialists who find themselves needing to "get dramatic."
- Acting Up: Help your students discover their inner drama queen (or king)! Okay, some of them don't need help with that, but this workshop will give you ideas and techniques for creative drama in the classroom. We'll cover storytelling, readers' theatre, improvisation, and the basics of mounting a fully-staged production.
- How to Coach Actors (Even if You're Not One): When you direct students, have you ever struggled to give them stage directions beyond "speak louder" and "learn your lines"? In this workshop, you'll acquire a "director's toolkit" to equip actors for stronger performances.
- Easy Theatre Games: Yes, you can help your students develop self-confidence, teamwork, and presentation skills by playing games! Here are some of the classics that are used by performers of all ages to brush up their acting chops.
- Sets, Costumes, Props, and You: If you're working on a fully-staged play, convincing kids to memorize their lines is nothing compared to the behind-the-scenes preparations. Pick up some ideas for creating easy and attractive sets, costumes, and props for children's theatre.
Drama with the Older Crowd
