Educator Inservices

Maybe you’re a classroom teacher who wants to put on a play with your students. Maybe you’re a camp counselor or youth program leader who’d like to use role-playing for character education. Either way, Drama by George can help you “get dramatic”!

Professional director and theatre educator George Halitzka will work with you to create a program that meets your unique needs. Inservices range in length from 1-3 hours. We can teach one or more of the following workshops, or create a custom module just for you.

Improv 101

We’ll show you how to teach students to act without a script. Knowing these “rules of the road” can equip children of any age to create short drama sketches that their audience will understand and enjoy. (Plus, educators will have a blast themselves as they practice the techniques during the inservice!)

Performance Tips and Tricks

Everybody knows that an actor should never turn her back on the audience. But what else should a first-time director look for as he or she coaches young actors? We’ll discuss the most important principles to reinforce during rehearsals, and equip you to solve some of the common problems you may encounter with your kids.

Effective Role-Playing

Want to use drama to teach character education principles or life skills in your classroom? We’ll not only show you how to do it (and let you try it for yourself)–we’ll also give you a page full of real-life scenarios on your chosen topic to use with students.

Playwriting to Improve Writing Skills

If you want your kids to have an audience and see the impact of their writing, what better way to do it than to let them perform their work? We’ll equip you to teach playwriting right in your classroom, and give you tips for setting up a successful performance at the end of the lesson.

Theatre Games

One of the best things about theatre is that you really can become a better actor by playing games! We’ll teach you hands-on activities that will improve your students’ self-confidence, presentation skills, and teamwork abilities.

Beginning Acting

This is the educator’s version of our popular Acting Like a Professional workshop. We’ll expose you to some basic principles of effective acting, and give you hands-on activities to use in teaching them to your students.
