Artist Residencies
Watch a short video about our Drama Workshops and Artist Residencies here.
George Halitzka can come to your school as an Artist in Residence for up to an entire week! During a residency, he can:
- Conduct the same workshop with numerous classes–for example, George might present “Acting Like a Professional” for every 5th grade class. Read about our single-session workshops here.
- Work intensively with a smaller group of students on a project–for example, he can spend time every day for a week with one class to rehearse a play. Weeklong programs are described on this page (below).
Contact us when you’re ready to plan your Artist Residency. You’ll save up to 50% off the cost of single workshops—and your students will love it!
Create Your Own Play
Grades 4-8 | 5 sessions of 50 minutes each
This one’s for aspiring writers as well as actors. Participants will learn the basics of storytelling, character creation, and dialogue writing. They’ll put those newly-acquired skills to use by penning an original three-minute play. On the last day of class, students will have the opportunity to perform their new works! (Note: Students may need to do some writing outside of class.)
Acting: The Next Step
Grades 4-8 | 5 sessions of 50 minutes each
“Acting: The Next Step” is ideal for students with some theatre experience who would like to take their skills to the next level. They’ll learn many of the fundamentals practiced by professional actors, like Objectives, Tactics, Obstacles, and Subtext. Then, they’ll practice their skills through class exercises and performing simple scenes. Help your student actors move ahead in their craft with “Acting: The Next Step.” (A simplified one-day workshop, Acting Like a Professional, is also available.)
Comedy Improv
Grades 6-8 | 5 sessions of 90 minutes each
Your students will learn to play those hilarious improv games, just like Whose Line Is It, Anyway? Improv is a lot of fun, and it also improves teamwork abilities and all-around performance skills. Students will learn and practice principles including “Yes, And,” “Storytelling,” “CROW,” and “Effective Collaboration.” This class culminates in a short performance for family and friends. (A simplified version of this class, Comedy Improv Basics, is available as a one-time workshop.)
Creative Drama
Grades 2-6 | 5 sessions of 90 minutes each
If your students have always wanted to be in a play, this is their chance! Students will prepare and perform a short, improvised version of a classic fairy tale. Along the way, they’ll learn the basics of acting. This is the perfect place for kids to get their first taste of the stage. (A simplified version of this class, Playmaking, is available as a one-time workshop.)
Center Stage!
Grades 3-8 | 5 sessions of 2 hours each
Here’s the place for tweens and teens to stretch their dramatic muscles. They’ll learn about performing as they memorize lines and prepare a short scripted play for performance. We always choose an age-appropriate script for your group, whether you teach grade schoolers or middle schoolers. This workshops results in a 10-15 minute performance. (Students will need to spend time outside of class memorizing their lines.)
