Other Workshops
George can cover a wide range of dramatic topics in his workshops. Try these on for size!
The Speaker's Toolbox
Designed with the business professional in mind, this workshop will help you become a more poised and compelling public speaker! We'll work on overcoming "podium fright," outlining a successful speech, using relevant stories to maintain interest, and making visual aids an integral part of your talk. This hands-on class will give you the tools to make your next presentation stand out from the crowd! (4 sessions of 2 hours each.)
Turning Your "Theatre Habit" Into a Business
Once upon a time, George found himself out of a job. He soon located part-time work, but also decided to try out his longtime dream of freelancing. Six months later, he was able to transition his new business into a full-time source of income! Learn how to decide if a theatre-oriented business is right for you, and pick up some practical wisdom on making the leap from hobby to profession. (One session of 1-2 hours.)
Drama in the Bible
If you’ve ever run across someone who thinks drama doesn’t belong in church (but you weren’t quite sure how to respond), this class is the place for you! It’s possible to make a strong Biblical case for using theatre to the glory of God. (One session of 60-90 minutes.)
Developing Your Homegrown Writers
Many ministries say they're committed to developing indigenous writers ... but how, in the midst of a busy schedule, can church leaders actually do it? This session will give you, the pastor or ministry leader, ideas for equipping the scribes among us. It's aimed primarily at empowering playwrights and prose writers (short story authors, journalists, essayists, etc.). However, many of these principles also apply to songwriters—and anyone else who does their creative work on paper! (One session of 60 minutes.)
Finding Great Stories for Worship
A good story, well-told, can melt even the hardest heart. Learn how to use short storytelling segments effectively in church! We'll go over the five essential parts of every story, then discuss ways to weave everything from testimonies to film clips into a worship gathering. (One session of 60-90 minutes.)
Emergent Drama: Telling Stories Onstage for the Next Generation
Around the nation, churches are struggling to connect with the 18-35 crowd—arguably, the least-churched generation in American history. How can church drama adapt to minister more effectively? We’ll look at practical and effective ways to put the Greatest Story Ever Told onstage—even for a “postmodern” audience. (One session of 60-90 minutes.)
"Theatre is My Life!" ... or Is It?
It’s often difficult, especially for young adults, to put one’s involvement with the arts in perspective with the rest of life. Theatre is a consuming—and sometimes devouring—occupation! The goals of this workshop are to help young artists see theatre as an integral part (but only a part) of their lives, and to help them give serious thought to how their personal values will influence their work. (One session of 1-2 hours.)
The Organized Artist
Can a theatre artist get organized and still be creative? George has discovered that at least for him, the answer is "yes"! Over the years, he's gone from being a very messy person to a very neat one. And thanks to his trusty daytimer, he actually shows up for his commitments, too! If you want to spend less time digging through your "piling system" and more time getting creative, this seminar will help you organize your workspace, your time, your files ... and maybe even your Prop Closet! (One session of 1-2 hours.)
