Acting Workshops
Need a one-day workshop? A presenter for a conference? An in-depth class? Whatever the circumstances, call on George to meet your actor training needs!
Comedy Improv
Learn to play those hilarious improv games, just like on Whose Line Is It, Anyway? Meanwhile, the skills you're learning will improve your confidence onstage, collaboration skills, and overall acting abilities!
- Improv Basics: We'll practice the bare bones of effective improv, including "Yes, And" and CROW (Character/ Relationship/ Objective/ Where). But this is only the beginning ...
- Nuts and Bolts: Learn how to make your improvisations shine! Topics covered will include Storytelling and The Ten Principles of Improv.
- Collaboration: In this session, the focus will be on working effectively with your scene partner to craft a scene. Usually, the results are better than anything you could come up with on your own!
- The Games, Part I: This is the class everyone's been waiting for! Here, you'll begin to play performance-oriented games like "What I Should Have Said," "Pillars," and "Foreign Poet."
- The Games, Part II: Learn some advanced improv games, like "Superheroes" and "ABC Styles."
- Class Performance: You'll finish your improv lessons by presenting a show for family and friends.
("Improv Basics" can be presented as a single 2-hour workshop, but the other sessions build on one another and cannot stand alone. A 6-session workshop of 2 hours per session will cover all of the units.)
Acting Like a Professional
Learn the fundamental techniques used by skilled actors around the world as they craft roles! This hands-on class will help you understand and practice the fundamentals of "Method Acting."
- Acting 101: We'll cover the concepts of Actions, Objectives, Tactics, and Obstacles. This workshop will expose you to the basic process used by skilled actors in approaching any part.
- Acting 201: Take your acting a step beyond the basics as you practice Given Circumstances, Subtext, and the basics of dividing a script into Beats. (It is recommended that participants first attend "Acting 101.")
- Emotional Acting: Bring more passion to your performances by discovering the techniques of Concentration, Sensory Memory, and Emotional Memory. (It is recommended that participants first attend "Acting 101" and "Acting 201.")
- Physical Acting: Explore new ways to use your body in portraying a role! We'll do a variety of exercises drawing on the concepts of Leading from Centers and Elements Work.
(Each unit above can stand alone and be covered in a single 1-2 hour workshop. Alternately, an 8-session workshop of 2 hours per session will cover all four units and many additional application exercises, culminating in a class performance.)
The Master Class
If you're looking for hands-on learning, explore the time-honored artistic tradition of the Master Class. George will watch your acting company's pre-rehearsed performance (usually a scene or a short play), then work with the actors to make it even better! Meanwhile, others who aren't involved in the performance can watch and learn from the process. If you lead creative-types who "learn by doing," this is a wonderful way to help them hone their skills! (One session of 1-2 hours.)
