About George

George Halitzka

You can call George Halitzka a writer, director, or educator—but first and foremost, he’s a storyteller. He believes wholeheartedly in the power of a well-told story to delight, engage, and transform.

George first learned directing in the school of hard knocks, better known as high school youth group. Since those early adventures—one of which involved a lidless blender and brand-new carpet—he’s gone on to direct in professional, educational, and community theatre settings. Some favorite projects include Christmas Presence (Drama by George/ Highland Vineyard, Louisville, KY), The Ranger Ned Story (Pacific Theatre, Vancouver, BC), Juvie (Palace Youth Theatre, Cleveland), Crucifix (Drama Inc., Chicago, IL), and The Father’s Gift (Parkview Church, Iowa City, IA). His work as a director has been profiled in Stage Directions and Cross Point.

George's short plays and writings on theatre have appeared in publications including Drama Ministry, Christianity and Theatre, LillenasDrama.com, and Forte. His play From Garden to Tomb is available from Contemporary Drama Service. George's ten-minute plays have twice been recognized in the CITA National Playwriting Contest (first place, 2002; second place, 2007), and he received the honorable mention in the full-length play category for Crucifix in 2007.

George is a featured teaching artist in the Kentucky Arts Education Showcase, as well as a frequent presenter at regional and national drama ministry events, like the Kentucky Creative Arts Festival and the Lillenas Drama Conference. He's taught theatre classes to hundreds of people, from kids who have never been onstage before to seasoned adult actors. George always strives to deliver high-quality presentations full of fun, energy, and hope.
